MINISTER STRAHL ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO THE BOARD OF THE CANADIAN WHEAT BOARD

OTTAWA, Ontario, November 1, 2006 - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister for the Canadian Wheat Board, today announced the appointment of Bruce Johnson to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB).

"Mr. Johnson's considerable experience in the grain business will be a tremendous asset to the Board of Directors of the CWB," said Minister Strahl. "I am confident that he will be able to bring new ideas to the table at this critical juncture as we move toward a new environment with marketing choice."

Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Manitoba. He has over twenty years experience in the business end of the grain industry as a senior executive with Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Ag Pro Grain. He currently provides consulting services to a wide range of clients in the rail transportation, agricultural input, and food processing industries as well as to the legal and government sectors.

"I believe the CWB and its directors must demonstrate strong leadership and complete engagement in the process of preparing the CWB for a future that includes freedom for farmers to market their grain as best they see fit. I am counting on the commitment of Mr.  Johnson to do this," said Minister Strahl.

Mr. Johnson fills one of two vacancies among the five government-appointed directors of the CWB.

Canada's New Government remains committed to moving forward on its promise to provide farmers with a choice in how they market their products and will do so in an open and transparent way. For information on the new government's path towards marketing choice, please visit www.agr.gc.ca/cwb.
