CIPEC Achievements

Each year, CIPEC publishes a report that outlines the energy efficiency accomplishments of Canadian Industry. CIPEC annual reports profile more than 20 industrial sectors, noting their energy intensity improvements, targets and challenges.

Industrial companies are also featured in CIPEC annual reports. These "success story" companies demonstrate what is possible when it comes to improving energy efficiency in Canada's industrial sector by:

  • identifying unique or creative processes through investments in new technology
  • improving operating practices
  • implementing effective employee awareness campaigns
  • raising the profile of energy conservation within corporate boardrooms

In the face of escalating energy costs, these successful companies prove that what is good for the environment is also good for their bottom line.

CIPEC Annual Reports

CIPEC 2003-2004 Annual Report

Canadian companies are increasingly relying on CIPEC for the guidance and expertise they need to curtail energy costs and boost profitability. Thanks in part to CIPEC’s efforts, the more than 5000 companies that represent over 98 percent of Canadian industry have reduced their combined energy intensity by 8.7 percent between 1990 and 2003, or an average of 0.7 percent per year. Improved energy management enabled Canadian industry to avoid approximately $3.4 billion in purchased energy in 2003, enough energy to meet the energy required to heat 4.8 million Canadian households for one year. Had energy intensity remained constant, industry’s greenhouse gas emissions would have been 27.8 megatonnes higher.
