Science and Technology

Research at the Pacific Forestry Centre has two primary areas of focus: Forest Biology and Forest Resources, which include research in remote sensing, biological control of weeds and insects, insect and disease management, alternative silvicultural systems, timber production, fire management, and ecosystem dynamics.

For fifty years, the Pacific Forestry Centre has been providing science solutions for forest management issues.

The Pacific Forestry Centre provides scientific and technical leadership as part of a national Canadian Forest Service network system. It is the leader for two of the ten networks — Effects of Forestry Practices and Landscape Management — but the Pacific Forestry Centre also contributes critical research to the eight other national networks:

  • Biodiversity
  • Tree Biotechnology and Advanced Genetics
  • Climate Change
  • Ecosystem Processes
  • Fire Management
  • Forest Health Monitoring
  • Pest Management Methods and
  • Socio-Economic Research.
