Abstract:

Objectives:
To reactivate and remeasure permanent sample plots in the Spruce Falls (up to 184 plots) and American Can (up to 185 plots) licence areas that were established in the 1950-1970 period. Emphasis will be on those containing Intensive Forest Management treatments and identify gaps in treatments. To digitize past records on plots and make available for inclusion in statistical analysis.

Location:
Northeastern Ontario

Key Deliverables:
Extension of a ground-based plot network for monitoring and measuring treatment response. Reactivation and remeasurement of existing plots and experimental (management) trials (e.g. fertilization, girdling, thinning, spacing)

Expected Benefits:
The data collected during this project will assist in building the benchmark yield curves and Growth and Yield Stand Density Management Models and Decision Support Systems within an adaptive management framework.

Sources of Funding:
CFS, OMNR, Tembec, Inc., Ontario's Living Legacy Trust (OLLT)

Cooperators:
Peter Newton, Canadian Forest Service, John Parton, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources
