Infrastructure Management: Turkey Lakes WatershedStudy Leader: D. Allan Cameron Study Description: This study provides coordination and infrastructure management for the
multidisciplinary, multi-agency Turkey Lakes Harvesting Impacts Project.
The project, established in 1997, is part of the larger Turkey Lakes Watershed
(est. 1979) and focusses upon ecosystem response to harvesting at the
stand and watershed level. It also addresses the issue of alternative
silvicultural systems for tolerant hardwood stands, compares the impacts
of partial cutting vs those of clearcutting for a broad range of ecosystem
elements (site impacts, logging damage to residual trees and advance growth,
site productivity, post-harvest vegetation succession and structure, stand
dynamics, growth and yield, soil and hydrological processes, carbon sequestration,
decomposition, songbird habitat and aquatic ecosystem responses. |
