Industry Energy Research and Development Program

Canadians engaged in energy efficiency research and development can receive financial assistance for their work under the Government of Canada's Industry Energy Research and Development Program (IERD). The program is aimed at supporting the development of leading edge products, processes or systems that will increase the efficiency of energy use throughout industry, and at encouraging the use of technologies developed under the program.

Projects that have received support under the program include the development of the following:

  • energy efficient fireplaces and space heaters;
  • large, highly efficient industrial electric motors;
  • highly efficiency refrigeration compressors;
  • a process for recycling used crankcase and lube oils;
  • toroidal transmission for diesel generator set; and
  • high performance automotive parts using powder metallurgy.

IERD is administered by the CANMET Energy Technology Centre-Ottawa, a branch of Natural Resources Canada, and is one of several federal energy efficiency programs.

For further details on the program please see our publications sections or ask a specialist.
