Testimonials
R-2000 homeowners are the real "experts" on the benefits of living in an R-2000 home. Here's what some of them say about their homes.
Homeowner: Fred Soper Location: Near Saint John, New Brunswick Home: Bungalow with walk-out basement, electric heat Builder: Moore Homes, Saint John, New Brunswick Period of residence: Three years in March 2002
Q: How would you rate the quality of your home compared with other homes you have lived in?
Fred Soper: "The quality of our home is excellent, and the builder was fabulous."
Q: How does the air quality of your home compare with that in other homes you have lived in?
Fred Soper: "With the ventilation system the air is really fresh and comfortable. We have relatives who have allergies, and when they come to visit us they really notice a difference. In other homes their allergies can be a problem, but not in this home. There's no musty smell in the basement, and the builder used special paints and materials that don't release chemicals into the air. We're really comfortable."
Homeowner: Harendra Upadhyay Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta Home: 360 m2 (3900 sq. ft.) bungalow with in-floor radiant heating Builder: Kensington Master Builders, Edmonton, Alberta Period of residence: Since September 2001
Q: Was getting an R-2000 home one of your buying criteria?
Harendra Upadhyay: "Yes, I wanted an R-2000 home. I’d seen some R-2000 show homes a number of years ago and also talked with builders about these homes. What I learned was that these homes have no cold drafts, the air is always fresh and they are better for the environment."
"I also wanted my home built with concrete walls, using insulating concrete forms. With this type of construction, going with R-2000 was quite easy; all we really needed to add was the ventilation system."
Q: How would you describe the overall comfort of your home?
Harendra Upadhyay: "Our home is very comfortable. There are no cold drafts and the air is very fresh. Also, there is very little dust in the home, so keeping it clean is much easier. With our climate, I think that builders should only build R-2000 homes in Canada."
R-2000 is an official mark of Natural Resources Canada.
