SmartWay

On September 14th, 2005 in Detroit, Michigan, NRCan, through FleetSmart, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through its SmartWay Transportation Partnership, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) formally agreeing to work together on tangible projects outlined in the MOU. Designed to promote cooperation and expansion of both of our current activities in a seamless measure, it will encourage and assist the freight industry in both countries to undertake voluntary actions to reduce fuel consumption and protect the environment with verifiable emissions reductions.

Overall, by joining forces, these two programs will create a distinct, cross-border program and continue playing a leadership role in energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide, particulate matter and oxides of nitrogen emissions.
