Canadian Diatom Database

NOTE: This database is populated with legacy data and is no longer updated. The data is provided to the public in its present format only and any interpretations may be out of date. No contact person is available for this product.

The Canadian Diatom Database includes approximately 3,000 diatom samples with their description, precise geographic location and associated information. Diatoms are powerful indicators of environmental conditions as they respond quickly to environmental changes, and they are widely utilized in stratigraphic investigations. The data provides accurate, abundant and readily available information essential for the proper interpretation of any modern or fossil diatom assemblage. This key source of climate indicators provides an invaluable long term time series to determining climate variations in the Canadian Arctic.

You can download a copy of our Diatom photo archive [ZIP, 41.2 Mb] and a copy of the entire Diatom database [MDB, 3.1 Mb]. You can also use the online tools provided below, to quickly consult the Diatom database.
