Frequently Asked Questions

Exhibitors (Government of Canada employees)

I want to be an exhibitor. What do I do?
If you are interested in exhibiting at the Science FunFest, you can register through the on-line system that will be available five to six weeks before National Science and Technology Week. For more information, please contact Claire Séguin.

When does the on-line registration system open?
The on-line registration form will be available five to six weeks before National Science and Technology Week. An e-mail will be sent to all exhibitors to inform them that the system is up and that registration can begin.

How do I make changes to my registration?
Exhibitors can make changes, as necessary, by e-mailing the Logistics Coordinator (Claire Séguin) up to two weeks before FunFest. Please note that last-minute changes cannot be accommodated.

As an exhibitor, what are my duties?
We ask that each team with an exhibit have one contact person to represent your team. Also, we request that at least one person from each exhibit attend the various planning meetings held during the period leading up to NSTW. We will arrange to set up tables and chairs as requested but exhibitors are responsible for setting up any other displays.

School Tours

What is the address of Natural Resources Canada 's Booth Street Complex?
Natural Resources Canada's Booth Street Complex is located on Booth Street at the corner of Carling Avenue, just south of Bronson Avenue near Dow's Lake in central Ottawa. There are several office buildings at the complex, but the primary ones for school tours are 601 Booth (the Geological Survey of Canada) and 615 Booth (Geomatics Canada). Here's a map.

Where can buses and cars be parked?

  • For cars

    Visitors parking
There are three spaces in the lot north of 580 Booth with a four-hour limit. There are more spaces across the street from 555 Booth (CANMET Building) inside the gated compound, also with a four-hour limit. If you park in either of these spots, check in at the Commissionaire's desk at the front of the building (555 or 580 Booth) and say that you are on a school tour.

On-street parking is one hour on Booth, Rochester and Norman streets. These are regularly patrolled by the city's parking authority, so you wouldn't want to stay here for more than an hour.

There are three private lots that charge $6 per day on Rochester Street, and another lot across from Dow's Lake pavilion.

  • For buses

Buses can park on LeBreton Street in the area directly behind the NRCan office buildings. There is enough room here for buses near the loading dock.

In what languages are the presentations available?

Presentations are available in both English and French, but in some cases the availability of either language is limited. When you reserve, please indicate in which language you would like your presentation.

What is the recommended group size?

We recommend a group size of 20 students with two adult supervisors.

Where can we eat lunch?

The boardrooms that are reserved for school workshops are available for groups to eat lunch in. We ask that teachers supervise their groups during this time. Between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., VCRs are usually available if you would like to show a video. Washrooms are nearby, and students should go in pairs to the washrooms. If you wish to bring your students outside, we ask that you confirm with your employee guide where you will meet again after lunch.

Is there a cost?

Natural Resources Canada does not charge a fee for any of the events during National Science and Technology Week. Transportation costs are the responsibility of the school.

Are there facilities for us to store jackets and bags for the day?

Unfortunately, no. Students taking part in the Global Positioning Systems workshop will need their jackets with them as this activity is outside.
