Appliance Energy-saving Tips and Distributors by Brand Name

Combination Washer-Dryers

Avoid washing partial loads, as combination washer-dryers work at peak efficiency when full. For more handy money- and energy-saving tips, see the "Clothes Washers" and "Clothes Dryers" sections of this directory.

ENERGY STAR qualified washer components in washer-dryers

As of 2004, only the washer component of a standard combination washer-dryer may be ENERGY STAR qualified. Note: Combination washer-dryers are also referred to as integrated washer-dryers.

Combination washer-dryer categories

Combination washer-dryers are available in various sizes, which affect energy consumption. To help you meet your drying needs, these appliances are listed in three categories.

Standard combination washer-dryers

In this category, dryer components have capacities of at least 125 litres; washer capacities must be at least 45 litres.

Compact combination washer-dryers

This category includes 120- and 240-volt dryer components with capacities of less than 125 litres; washer capacities are less than 45 litres.

Standard combination washer-dryers with condensing or gas dryers

This category groups standard combination washer-dryers for which there is energy efficiency data only for the washer components; the dryer components of these appliances are either condensing or gas units and are therefore not rated under EnerGuide.
