FortisBC Inc.

FortisBCThis link opens a new window. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc. – a diversified, international electric utility holding company based in Newfoundland and Labrador. Fortis Inc.'s entry into British Columbia began with its purchase of Aquila Networks Canada on May 31, 2004. This purchase included operations in Alberta and British Columbia. FortisBC is an integrated, regulated electric utility that generates, transmits and distributes electricity in a 90 000 km2 service territory in the southern interior of British Columbia. FortisBC serves more than 98 000 customers directly in Kelowna, Osoyoos, Trail, Castlegar, Princeton and Rossland and approximately 49 000 customers through the wholesale supply of power to municipal distributors in Summerland, Penticton, Kelowna, Grand Forks and Nelson. FortisBC plans to promote energy-efficient equipment, including ENERGY STAR® qualified products.

Barrie Hydro

Barrie HydroThis link opens a new window. launched an ENERGY STAR pilot program designed to encourage the sale and purchase of ENERGY STAR qualified appliances. The program is directed to all residential and small business customers of Barrie Hydro. The program is unique in that it provides a financial incentive of an 8 percent rebate for the purchase of any ENERGY STAR qualified product including all appliances, consumer electronics, lighting and office equipment to a maximum of $200.00 per household or business. Barrie Hydro intends to work with other ENERGY STAR participating manufacturers and retailers to encourage the promotion and sale of their innovative products. Upon completion of the pilot, Barrie Hydro will continue to promote ENERGY STAR-qualified products.

BC Hydro

BC HydroThis link opens a new window. launched an ENERGY STAR pilot program to determine the potential for influencing the sale of more energy-efficient appliances and thus reducing the electricity consumption of residential households. BC Hydro offered financial incentives to salespersons for each ENERGY STAR-labelled refrigerator and clothes washer sold and provided training to sales personnel. BC Hydro continues to promote ENERGY STAR-qualified products.

Direct Energy Essential Home Services

Direct EnergyThis link opens a new window. a major Energy and Home Services provider. Direct Energy promotes high-efficiency ENERGY STAR-qualified products, among its customers through flyer advertising, in-store promotion and special activities.

Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc.

Enbridge Gas DistributionThis link opens a new window. supplies natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Ontario. Enbridge promotes high-efficiency ENERGY STAR-qualified natural gas furnaces and boilers among its customers. For one year starting in October 2002, with the financial participation of Natural Resources Canada, Enbridge is offering an incentive to customers replacing their older heating unit with an ENERGY STAR-qualified high-efficiency gas heating system.

Enbridge Gas New Brunswick

Owned by Enbridge Inc. and approximately 50 New Brunswick investors,
Enbridge Gas New BrunswickThis link opens a new window. distributes natural gas to institutional, commercial, industrial and residential customers in New Brunswick. Enbridge Inc. is a leader in energy transportation and distribution in North America and internationally. Enbridge operates the world's longest crude oil and liquids pipeline system.

Enbridge Gas New Brunswick is working with Natural Resources Canada to motivate consumers to choose ENERGY STAR qualified heating systems for their home, and to motivate builders to install high efficiency equipment.

Gaz Métro

Gaz MétroThis link opens a new window. is working in partnership with ENERGY STAR to help build an economy in which energy efficiency plays a larger role. By promoting the international ENERGY STAR symbol, Gaz Métro is encouraging customers to save money while helping the environment. On October 1, 2003, Gaz Métro changed the certification requirements for appliances under its residential energy efficiency programs. Now only ENERGY STAR labelled products are eligible for financial incentives under Gaz Métro's residential energy efficiency programs. As a result of the new certification criteria, a larger number of appliances are now eligible for incentives.

Hawkesbury Hydro

Hawkesbury Hydro Inc, a local distributor of electricity for residential, commercial and industrial customers for the Hawkesbury area, is highly committed to the environment and to providing solutions to climate change and GHG emissions. Hawkesbury Hydro will offer incentives to help defray the cost of ENERGY STAR qualified equipment and appliances. Customer awareness, communication and promotion of ENERGY STAR qualified products is also an important component of Hawkesbury Hydro's conservation program

Heritage Gas Limited

Heritage GasThis link opens a new window. is a consortium of SaskEnergy Incorporated (Saskatchewan), Scotia Investments Limited (Nova Scotia) and AltaGas Ltd. (Alberta). The shareholders of Heritage Gas have more than 50 years of experience in designing, constructing and operating natural gas systems in Canada. They have nearly 400,000 natural gas distribution customers in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories. Heritage Gas is working with Natural Resources Canada and the Nova Scotia Department of Energy to motivate consumers in Nova Scotia to choose ENERGY STAR qualified natural gas heating systems for their homes and businesses.

Hydro-Québec

Building on its track record as a proactive promoter of energy efficiency, Hydro-QuébecThis link opens a new window. is furthering its commitment to the environment and to providing solutions to climate change by linking up with the ENERGY STAR high efficiency initiative. Customers can now request a residential energy-use diagnostic test, Energy Wise, that offers tips on how to save energy at home. And even though Hydro-Québec already offers incentives to homeowners who purchase electronic thermostats and timers for swimming pools, it plans to sign partnership agreements with manufacturers and retailers to enhance the promotion of energy-saving appliances, including ENERGY STAR-qualified products. The Energy Wise program is also available to Hydro-Québec's commercial customers.

Manitoba Hydro

Manitoba HydroThis link opens a new window. is the province's major energy utility and supports ENERGY STAR by informing and educating customers about choosing ENERGY STAR qualified products. Datasheets, newspaper/magazine advertisements, point of purchase material, trade show displays and local Power Smart campaigns are all used to create awareness and understanding of ENERGY STAR. Through the Power Smart New Home Program, customers who build a home to minimum standards receive a certificate of up to $1,000 toward an ENERGY STAR qualified front-loading clothes washer. As part of the Power Smart Standard, new homes must incorporate fluorescent or ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent lighting in the kitchen, living room and one other main room in the house.

In the fall of 2003, Manitoba Hydro Power Smart in partnership with Natural Resources Canada and the City of Winnipeg, initiated a three-year research project to monitor LED traffic and pedestrian signal performance. Fifteen sample intersections throughout the city have been retrofitted with ENERGY STAR qualified LEDs. The study will provide data on cost and performance, including power requirements, light output and cold climate operation.

Norfolk Power Inc.

Norfolk Power This link opens a new window. is a small electrical distribution utility in Southern Ontario. Norfolk Power promotes high efficiency ENERGY STAR-qualified products for all customers through the use of news media advertising, billing stuffers to its 18,000 customers and through an ongoing energy efficiency information column in the local paper. Norfolk Power also offers energy audits for commercial and industrial customers. The company has on ongoing program of promotional and awareness activities for a whole range of ENERGY STAR-qualified products to help its residential and commercial customers select the most energy-efficient appliances and equipment.

SaskEnergy Inc.

SaskEnergy IncorporatedThis link opens a new window. is a natural gas utility that provides natural gas and related services to residential, farm, commercial and industrial customers in Saskatchewan. SaskEnergy serves approximately 323,000 customers in Saskatchewan. SaskEnergy is promoting ENERGY STAR qualified gas furnaces and boilers in various ways. Through its Web site, bill inserts and such activities as a prime rate loan program, SaskEnergy is raising its clientele's awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency.

SaskPower

SaskPowerThis link opens a new window. is the principal supplier of electricity in Saskatchewan, serving more than 441,000 customers and employing over 2,400 people in communities across the province. SaskPower's mission is to deliver electricity in a safe, reliable, cost effective and environmentally responsible manner. SaskPower is committed to educating both customers and employees on how making careful choices about their electricity use can save money on their power bill and help protect the environment. For this reason, SaskPower actively promotes ENERGY STAR qualified products.

Terasen Gas (formerly BC Gas)

Terasen GasThis link opens a new window. has carried out a project to influence the sale and installation of high-efficiency ENERGY STAR-qualified gas-fired central heating equipment in retrofit residential applications. The project included incentives provided by Natural Resources Canada, Terasen Gas and participating manufacturers, an aggressive marketing and information campaign by Terasen Gas, and an impact assessment at the end of the project. Terasen Gas continues to promote high-efficiency, ENERGY STAR-qualified systems.

Toronto Hydro Corporation

Toronto Hydro CorporationThis link opens a new window. has prepared an Energy Efficiency Tips booklet for its customers. The booklet helps consumers to understand the advantages of purchasing ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances.

Union Gas Ltd.

Union Gas Ltd.This link opens a new window. is a major Canadian natural gas utility that provides energy delivery and related services to approximately 1.2 million residential, commercial and industrial customers in over 400 communities in northern, southwestern and eastern Ontario. Union Gas is committed to helping customers make energy-efficient improvements to their homes and businesses. The company promotes the sale and installation of ENERGY STAR-qualified heating equipment to contractors and customers.
