Steps to Apply for CBIP Funding

Here you will learn how to apply for funding from the Commercial Building Incentive Program (CBIP) for new commercial, institutional and multi-unit residential buildings. Please make sure you have first reviewed the basics of how CBIP funding works before proceeding with the following steps.

Steps

  1. Submit a completed Expression of Interest Form.

  2. A letter with a project number is sent to the building owner and simulator. This project number entitles you to technical support valued at $1,000. Please apply to obtain this service.

  3. Submit to NRCan the appropriate design documentation. See the CBIP/IBIP submission checklist

  4. NRCan verifies that the design meets the technical requirements of the program. If it does, NRCan sends a Contribution Agreement to the building owner.

  5. The building owner completes and submits the Initial Payment Request Form to NRCan and then receives 80 percent of the financial support.

  6. The building owner completes and submits the Final Payment Request Form to NRCan along with a photograph of the building and proof that the building has been constructed in accordance with the design specifications. The remaining 20 percent of the financial support will then be remitted.

Quebec Clients Only

If your new building is located in the province of Quebec, you can simplify your application process to Quebec’s energy efficiency programs by having NRCan submit the results of your CBIP review directly to Hydro-Québec, the Energy Efficiency Fund and Gazifère's energy efficiency funding programs. To take advantage of this opportunity, follow the steps to apply for multiple funding in Quebec using the "One-Stop Shop."

In some cases, the regional incentives can be combined with CBIP funding.

If you are planning a news release or event about your new building, please contact us well in advance so we can arrange participation from the Government of Canada.
