The State of Energy Efficiency in Canada – Office of Energy Efficiency Report 2006
This eighth edition of the State of Energy Efficiency in Canada serves as a quick guide to the policies and programs of Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) Office of Energy Efficiency. It describes the progress of Canada's economic sectors in improving energy efficiency and the contributions made by the programs of NRCan. Canadians have been making great strides in using energy more wisely, avoiding about $13.4 billion in energy costs in 2003 alone.

Improving Energy Performance in Canada – Report to Parliament Under the Energy Efficiency Act For the Fiscal Year – 2004-2005
This twelfth report under the Energy Efficiency Act describes what Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has done in 2004-2005 to help improve Canada's energy efficiency and use of renewable energy. From 1990 to 2003, Canada's energy efficiency improved by 12.7 percent. In 2003 alone, Canadians saved $13.4 billion in energy costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 52 megatonnes.

Guide to Canada's Energy Efficiency Regulations
Canada's first Energy Efficiency Regulations came into effect in February 1995, following extensive consultations with the provincial governments, affected industries, utilities, environmental groups and others. These regulations establish energy efficiency standards for a wide range of energy-using products, with the objective of eliminating the least energy-efficient products from the Canadian market.

Federal House in Order – Annual Report on Emissions Reductions From Federal Operations, October 2004

The Government of Canada is taking action to address climate change and is demonstrating leadership by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within its own operations. The Federal House in Order (FHIO) initiative formally centralizes the Government of Canada's efforts to monitor, track and reduce its own emissions. Supported by lead departments Environment Canada, Natural Resources Canada and Public Works and Government Services Canada, the initiative specifically targets 11 departments and agencies that together account for an estimated 95 percent of all Government of Canada emissions.

This Annual Report on Emissions Reductions From Federal Operations meets the Government of Canada's commitment to report annually on its progress in reducing GHG emissions.

Energy Efficiency Trends in Canada 1990 to 2003, June 2005

View database

This report addresses the complicated question of what impact energy efficiency is having in Canada. It provides an analysis of the impact of energy efficiency on secondary energy use – the energy that Canadians use to heat and cool their homes and workplaces and to operate their appliances, vehicles and factories – and on the generation of electricity.

Influencing Energy Use in Canada Progress Indicators on Initiatives
This report reviews the progress of NRCan's efficiency and alternative energy initiatives from 1990 to 1995. These initiatives are a key component of Canada's National Action Program on Climate Change, which sets out the strategic directions Canada will follow to limit its greenhouse gas emissions.
