Merger of NRCan Libraries

Recently, a decision was made by the Departmental Management Committee (DMC) to merge the NRCan Libraries. Currently there are 3 library systems and 13 individual libraries.

• Earth Science Information Centre (ESS) including GSC Libraries in Calgary, Vancouver and Québec.
• The Canadian Forest Service (CFS) Library Network with libraries in Ottawa, Victoria, Edmonton, Sault Ste. Marie, Quebec, Fredericton and Corner Brook.
• The Energy, Minerals and Metals Information Centre (EPS, ETPS, CMS, MMS, SSO), including libraries in Varennes and Devon.

The library transformation initiative will take place in 2 phases, beginning with the consolidation of the library administration. The position of Departmental Librarian will be established reporting to Dr. Richard Tobin, ADM, Corporate Management Sector.

Over the coming weeks we will be entering a period of transition, however, service to our clients will continue to be a priority. We look forward to expanding and enhancing our services in the future and to providing greater accessibility to information resources for all NRCan employees.
