Fort Liard is located 37 km north of the NWT/BC border (the 60th parallel).  The hamlet lies on the eastern shore of the Liard River and is home to about 500 people.

The area also has subsurface natural gas, boreal forests, and diverse wildlife. In recent years, natural gas exploration activity has increased substantially in the Liard Valley.  The activity includes ongoing natural gas production at the Pointed Mountain field to the west of Fort Liard, as well as world-class new production and pipeline development.

The objective of this web site is to compile information on the physical environment, resource interests, and land uses in the area.  This information is relevant to land use planners, the petroleum industry working in the area, resource managers, scientific researchers, environmental assessors, and the general public. This site will more effectively lead these groups to the resource information they require in their endeavours.

This site was launched on April 29, 1999.  Information is being added on a continuous basis, so please bookmark the site and visit the What's New page often!
