The Atlin project, involving scientists from universities and both provincial and federal governments, provided the Atlin area with its first new geological map since the advent of plate tectonics, about 40 years. This project, supported by a major airborne magnetic survey, led to the discovery of the massive sulphide Joss'alun occurrence in 2002, proof of greater potential for commercial minerals than just gold in this region of northern British Columbia.
