The Yellowknife mining camp has been one of Canada's major gold mining districts since 1938. The gold coming from one of North America's best preserved and exposed Archean volcanic belts. The Yellowknife Mining Camp Project (1998-2003) was a federal initiative designed to develop new ideas and technologies to help the mining industry replenish reserves in the mining camp and thereby contribute by maintaining and creating jobs-related jobs and maintain existing ones.
