Geomorphic effects and impacts from July 1996 severe flooding in the Saguenay area, Quebec Photo 6
Photo 6 - New outlet of Lac Ha! Ha!
The new outlet of Lac Ha!Ha! reservoir is located at the site of a saddle dyke which was overtopped and eroded during the rainstorm allowing the lake to drain. The released water greatly accentuated the storm runoff downvalley, producing a flood that was about an order-of-magnitude higher than the previously recorded maximum daily discharge for Riviére des Ha!Ha!. The subaerial lake bed and residual water surface are present in the foreground of the photograph; the remnant margins of the dyke are marked by red arrows. Photograph taken on July 28, 1996 (GSC photograph 1997-42B).
