Mallik 2002
December 21, 2001

In the past three days the number of crew on site has grown from 44 to 62 people. The camp, with dining room and kitchen, sleeping accommodations, washrooms and offices has been assembled. Flooding of the ice road continues to ensure the ice is thick enough (1 m) to move the heaviest loads from the Taglu staging area to the drill site. The drill rig itself is 99% on site, in pieces and assembly has begun. The first observation hole is expected to be "spudded" (started) this weekend, and there is intense activity to get ready. Not an easy task in all-day darkness at temperatures of -32 degrees Celsius.
