Ice-Core Expedition 2001
Daily Report - May 20th 2001

Unstable snow.
Unstable snow.

Good for the past several days, the weather is beginning its inevitable change. It is cold and windy and the clouds have moved in. The high-camp team slept last night at a location just below its planned destination at Camp IV. There are crevasses to be negotiated and, to be safe, this is careful, slow work and will take time for a prudent team of climbers. The high-altitude drilling team has many weeks ahead of it. In this, it differs from a mountain-climbing team that can move up fast, then promptly come off the mountain and recover in gentler conditions.
