Ice-Core Expedition 2001
Daily Report - May 31st 2001

The ICE2001 team is working in one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Any view is breathtaking, as shown by this scene, captured enroute to the expedition site.
The ICE2001 team is working in one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Any view is breathtaking, as shown by this scene, captured enroute to the expedition site.

The three ICE2001 camps still wait for the weather to become helicopter-friendly, but they are certainly not idle. At the highest camp, Prospector-Russell Col, Mike Waskiewicz is erecting a weather station (for a description see daily report for May 18) that had been delivered the year before. At the intermediate site, King Col, Gerry Holdsworth and Kaplan Yalcin are beginning to test a glacier-probing radar unit. At the lower site, Quintino Sella, Fritz Koerner and Tetsu Yamasaki hauled supplies up to Camp I in preparation for a mobile camp that will take samples for various tests.
