The Geochronology Section houses three complementary, analytical facilities:
in situ U-Th-Pb isotope analysis using the Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP)
A Class 100 clean laboratory and thermal ionization mass spectrometers for the analysis of U-Th-Pb, Rb-Sr, Pb-Pb and Sm-Nd by isotope dilution methods
A 40Ar/39Ar facility, equipped with a laser for in situ age determination
