Interactive Maps

The following links provide interactive maps, geospatial data and other digital library prototypes.

  • Cordlink
Cordlink is a collaborative knowledge network initiative between the GSC and its provincial/territorial and academic partners in western Canada. Its objective is to develop the prototype for an internet-based digital library system to seamlessly integrate digital map, image and text-based information on the geology of the Canadian Cordillera.

  • MIRAGE (Map Image Rendering DAtabase for GEoscience)
The Map Image Rendering Database for Geoscience (MIRAGE) project started in July 1998 with a grant from the ESS ResSources GSC initiative (RGSC). In 2003, the ESS Program Consolidating Canada's Geoscience Knowledge revamped the project to include the majority of ESS geological maps. The goal of this Program is to provide the infrastructure for efficient and effective discovery, access and management of Canada's geoscience data, information and knowledge and develop a prioritized implementation plan for the Cooperative Geological Mapping Strategies (CGMS) which reflect social, economic, environmental and policy sector needs and priorities.

  • GB Explorer - Georgia Basin Digital Library
In collaboration with the Georgia Basin Futures Project (GBFP) of the University of British Columbia, Geomatics for Informed Decisions (GEOIDE) and the Earth Sciences Sector (ESS) of Natural Resources Canada, the Georgia Basin Digital Library (GBExplorer) project aims at developing an on-line web resource that promotes awareness and understanding of sustainable development issues within the Georgia Basin region of Southwestern British Columbia, Canada.

  • GeoSemantica
As a digital library prototype, GeoSemantica aims at developing awareness and understanding of geologic hazard issues within the member countries of the MAP:GAC project. Specifically, the GeoSemantica initiative creates a focused digital library framework to help promote the integration of geologic information for the purposes of collaboration between MAP:GAC member countries.

  • MapPlace
The MapPlace is an Internet based system that provides users free access to British Columbia Ministry of Energy and Mines geospatial data, with links to attribute data. Users should download the free Autodesk Mapguide Viewer to interactively view or download all available maps.

  • Geosciences Interactive Databases - Cornell University
The interactive mapping and geoscience data analysis was developed by Cornell University. It provides direct access to their digital data sets. Their main goal of the web site was to develop an information system for the entire globe. Currently, there are regions of special interest, such as the Middle East, North Africa, and the United States, where more detailed data sets can be found.
