LogView (GSC Open File 3055) is a Windows application that facilitates the layout, viewing, and printing of borehole geophysical logs. Attributes ranging from lithology fills, colours, and linestyles, to title font sizes may be edited for presentation purposes. Practical features also include zooming, panning, filtering, data transforms, position tracking, and much more.

LogView was written as a Microsoft Windows 3.1 application, but we have also run it under Windows 95 and NT with no problems. It requires a 80386 PC or better, with at least 4 Mb of RAM to run smoothly. A math co-processor is highly recommended, since LogView relies intensively on floating-point calculations.

New LogView Features

  • Ability to copy a bitmap of a selected portion of the Layout to the clipboard.
  • Support for Acoustic data.
  • Re-organized menus for easier use.
  • Global layout scale feature.
  • Fixed problems with the behaviour of the transforms dialog.
  • Basic support for CWLS LAS format (read only).
  • Simple support file creation utility to handle LAS data files (this allowed implementation of LAS files without rewriting LogView's data management core).
  • Many other small tweaks like "Cancel" buttons and appropriate "layout modified" checking for "Save Layout" prompting.

Some of these changes aren't included in the version of LogView available at the GSC Bookstore, however, we'll gladly send you a beta copy of the latest LogView by e-mail after you purchase LogView from the bookstore.
