The Leamy Lake navigation channel is a navigable waterway for pleasure crafts and tourist vessels that crosses Leamy Lake and links the Gatineau River to De La Carrière Lake in Gatineau (Hull area). The Leamy Lake Navigation Channel Regulations are administered by the NCC and are one set of federal regulations that govern activity in the channel.

The NCC is proposing amendments to the regulations to better meet the needs of users. The purpose of the proposed Regulations Amending the Leamy Lake Navigation Channel Regulations is to:

  • permit non-motorized vessels to circulate freely in the navigation channel;
  • change the coordinates for one of the buoys marking the limits of the channel; and
  • update a reference to “the City of Hull.”

The Regulations Amending the Leamy Lake Navigation Channel Regulations were pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on September 30, 2006. The proposed regulations and the regulatory impact analysis statement (RIAS) are now available for review on the Canada Gazette website.

The initial public consultation relating to the amendment of these regulations took place during the summer of 2003. This consultation allowed the NCC to obtain public input in order to draft the proposed amendments to the Leamy Lake Navigation Channel Regulations. The full public consultation report is available at the link below.

Hard copies of the proposed regulations, the RIAS and the public consultation report are also available for review at the NCC library, the Central Branch of the Ottawa Public Library and Maison du Citoyen Library.

Interested persons are welcome to provide comments to the NCC by October 30, 2006, at the address below. All comments will be taken into consideration in preparing the final version of the regulations.
