GSDNR Projects
Communications, Outreach and Assessment

This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.

The Communications, Outreach & Assessment (COA) project offers co-ordinated professional communications, outreach and assessment support to the Geomatics for the Sustainable Development of Natural Resources (GSDNR) program and its portfolio of projects. This is done through exchanges with clients and stakeholders using a variety of new and conventional delivery channels.

The COA project targets four types of communications and outreach activities. These are:

  • Internal communications, including the preparation of briefing notes, annual reports, mid-year and annual reviews, and presentations to Natural Resources of Canada (NRCan) sector management;
  • Communications targeted to the awareness of the importance and value of GSDNR's geomatics information, including the maintenance of a program website (gsdnr@nrcan.gc.ca), multi-media and printed products, presentations to the public and to current and potential clients, graphic displays, and interactive activities;
  • Client-stakeholder consultations to assess impact, determine client needs and align program and project priorities accordingly, including the preparation of reports, presentations to clients, program managers and project leaders, briefings, meetings, and consultations;
  • Risk assessment of GSDNR's projects to identify major threats to the success of the program, to estimate the likelihood that each threat will occur and to estimate the severity of the consequences should any of the threats occur.

Project Priorities:

  • Client/stakeholder consultations for risk and impact assessment as well as program evaluation and redefinition;
  • Co-ordinated program communication and information management (internal and to the public);
  • Community outreach and science awareness.
