Project: Socio-economic vulnerability and integrated assessment Activity: Permafrost impacts - Cost to communities This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.
Infrastructure in northern communities often relies on permafrost for stability, and is expected to be susceptible to thaw-related problems associated with climate change and terrain disturbance. The research is aimed at providing first- approximation of the costs associated with impacts of climate warming on buildings and homes, using construction experience and projections of climate change impacts with various scenarios.
