Project: Monitoring methods and assessment of carbon sequestration over Canada's landmass Sub-activity: Mapping land cover, land cover change and disturbances for carbon This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.
This research will produce land cover maps of Canada's arctic and sub-arctic ecosystems (e.g., taiga, tundra, and peatlands) to serve as input to models that assess biological carbon sequestration, and develop satellite-based algorithms, automated systems, and products that will help characterize changes to terrestrial carbon budget caused by disturbances and modifications to land cover and land use.
