Leader: David McCormack
This project will contribute to Program outputs and outcomes by providing primary assessments of seismic, tsunami and volcanic hazards for Canada leading to decreased damage, reduced costs, improved safety and security and better informed decisions on development of resources and infrastructure. The assessment is primary in the sense that it uses established techniques.
The project supports NRCan mandated obligations for provision of seismological and other technical information related to the probable or actual occurrence and intensity of earthquakes. The project also fulfills international obligations for exchange of seismic data, volcanic ash warnings, and tsunami warnings, contributes to satisfying NRCan responsibilities under emergency preparedness legislation.
The project will provide the national public information service for earthquakes, tsunamis (with Department of Fisheries and Oceans), volcanic events and associated hazards, and provide input into integrated hazard assessment and mitigation initiatives.
