Natural Hazards and Emergency Response Achieving Outcomes This information represents activities in the Earth Sciences Sector Programs (2002-2006). Please refer to Priorities for information on current Earth Sciences Sector Programs.
To achieve its outcomes, NHER will work with various partners to develop national initiatives to manage and make accessible over the internet a wide
range of natural hazard information. It will foster the further development
of national working networks for hazard assessment and mitigation research
and application. NHER will provide the fundamental infrastructure necessary
for geological hazard information access and will provide a suite of knowledge
on earthquake, landslide, tsunami, volcanic eruption and geomagnetic storms
for mitigation and emergency response.
The program will explore activities in Canada that could develop systems with the potential to further integrate hazards research
into loss reduction and disaster response preparedness decision making. Such systems include:
- A national network of hazard information delivery and access
- New models for nationally integrated community-based hazard monitoring networks
- Initiation of a national network for hazard assessment
- A forum for networking mitigation research and application communities
- The rudiments of a national hazard decision support infrastructure.
