Palynology laboratory

The Palynology Laboratory at GSC Calgary prepares palynomorph samples for the GSC and collaborating paleontologists/biostratigraphers, in order to determine:

  • organic maturity of sediments
  • age and correlation of strata
  • environments of deposition

Equipment

  • 3 fume hoods
  • 1 centrifuge (8 tube capacity)
  • 3 centrifuges (16 tube capacity)
  • 1 oscillating machine
  • 3 vortex mixers
  • 5 hot plates
  • 2 ultrasonic water baths
  • 1 cell disrupter
  • 1 fume absorber
  • 1 binocular microscope
  • 1 transmitted light microscope
