The Sustainable
Mining and Remediation Technologies (SMART) Project is an initiative
undertaken by the environment group of CANMET Mining and Mineral
Sciences Laboratories (MMSL). Scientists within the research program
areas of Mine Effluents,
Mine Waste Management,
and Metals and the Environment
will be collaborating to develop solutions that will address environmental
issues facing the Canadian mining industry.
PROJECT
OBJECTIVE
The objective
of the SMART Project is to develop innovative technologies to enhance
the sustainability of the minerals and metals industry by improving
the understanding of the behaviour and fate of minerals and metals
in the environment.
SMART
Overview
The SMART project
will focus on innovative research and the development of new environmental
technologies that will contribute to the sustainable development
of Canada's natural resources. In addition to CANMET-MMSL research
components, the SMART project will involve partnering with the mining
industry, universities, consulting companies and other research
organizations. If your organization is interested in collaborating
in one of these or a related area, please contact
us.
The SMART
Project consists of twenty-one technical sub-projects
in five main areas:
plus coordination and
communications of the SMART project.
