SMART Project at CANMET-MMSL

SMART Project

The Sustainable Mining and Remediation Technologies (SMART) Project is an initiative undertaken by the environment group of CANMET Mining and Mineral Sciences Laboratories (MMSL). Scientists within the research program areas of Mine Effluents, Mine Waste Management, and Metals and the Environment will be collaborating to develop solutions that will address environmental issues facing the Canadian mining industry.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The objective of the SMART Project is to develop innovative technologies to enhance the sustainability of the minerals and metals industry by improving the understanding of the behaviour and fate of minerals and metals in the environment.

SMART Overview

The SMART project will focus on innovative research and the development of new environmental technologies that will contribute to the sustainable development of Canada's natural resources. In addition to CANMET-MMSL research components, the SMART project will involve partnering with the mining industry, universities, consulting companies and other research organizations. The SMART Project consists of twenty-one technical sub-projects in five main areas:
