Database of Descriptions of Ectomycorrhizae

This initial version of the Database of Descriptions of Ectomycorhizae (DDE) was completed January 2000 and was developed with the purpose of bringing together as many published and unpublished descriptions as possible, to be a comprehensive tool for identification of ectomycorrhizae.

Objectives:

  • To promote conservation of the diversity of ectomycorrhizal  fungi
  • To facilitate ectomycorrhizal research
  • To facilitate the use of ectomycorrhizae in sustainable  forest management

Scope:

At present DDE contains 343 descriptions, 320 from Determination of Ectomycorrhizae (DEEMY), and 23 from a Manual of Concise Descriptions of Ectomycorrhizae (CDE). In January 2002 DDE was updated to allow qualified researchers to add their unpublished descriptions to the database, and to modify these descriptions as needed. Entry of descriptions and of search profiles is done using a common web form. The characters used to describe the ectomycorrhizae are those used in CDE. Links are also provided to Matchmaker Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest if a description of the mushroom sporocarp of that species also occurs there.
