Industrial and Scientific Assignment Program

Description

The Industrial and Scientific Assignment Program promotes the transfer of technology or technical knowledge to or from the Department, industry, other levels of government and academic institutions in Canada and abroad. The program involves the loan for fixed terms of scientific, professional and technical personnel between NRCan and other levels of government, industry and academia. It enables industry and the scientific community to gain an appreciation of the government's scientific environment and allows NRCan employees to gain operating experience with outside organizations.

Objectives

  • To promote through participant assignments the transfer of technology or technical knowledge to or from the Department, industry, other levels of government and academic institutions in Canada and abroad.

Requirements

An assignment is normally for a fixed period, not to exceed three years. The assignment may be ended with reasonable notice, as agreed upon by all parties at the start of the assignment.

To maintain an employee's career, the sponsoring sector must, upon the return from secondment, reintegrate the person to his/her position or an equivalent one.

No offers of employment will be made to incoming or outgoing participants by either the sponsoring or host organization during the assignment.

Participants will remain employees of their sponsoring organization while on assignment, and will continue to receive all salary and benefits applicable to them.
