Un des projets de surveillance de l'environnement du programme hyperspectral du Centre canadien de télédétection (CCT) a pour but d'évaluer l'utilisation de données d'un spectromètre pour identifier les parcs de résidus miniers et surveiller leur réhabilitation. Pour ce projet, on a utilisé des images hyperspectrales du capteur casi (Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager) qui opère dans le visible et le proche infrarouge pour observer les parcs de résidus miniers de la mine de Copper Cliff à Sudbury. Ce site d'étude avait été préalablement choisi dans le but de vérifier les résultats du programme de revégétation mis en place par la société minière Inco. Acquis les 24 août 1996 et 19 août 1998, les jeux de données de ce site ont été traités et analysés à l'aide du système ISDAS (Imaging Spectrometer Data Analysis System) développé par le CCT. Les résultats présentés ici indiquent que ces techniques peuvent être employées pour cartographier de tels sites et surveiller les résultats des efforts de réhabilitation.
