In the summer of 2004, the GSC conducted Quaternary mapping in the Schultz Lake (NTS 66A) area in the central Kivalliq Region of Nunavut. The glacial record is poorly known in this area of complex ice flow located beneath the former Keewatin Ice Divide during the last glaciation. Our work identified several regional ice flow events having distinct trends over the Kivalliq Region, suggesting new evidence for the mobility of dispersal centres during the Wisconsin glaciation. Ice flow maps and datasets have been published in a GSC Open File CD-ROM (4926) and are discussed in a GSC Current Research paper (2005-B2). This work will support mineral exploration, particularly drift prospecting for diamonds given the recent discovery of numerous kimberlites in the Kivalliq Region.
