Objectives

The objectives of this project are to:

  1. Develop a digital atlas of landscape-scale natural disturbances (fire and insects) in BC forests.

  2. Make natural disturbance databases and data visualization tools available to other researchers, practitioners and the public through the Internet and other electronic means.

  3. Determine the frequency, probability, variation, and pattern of disturbance from analysis of historical fire and insect outbreak data; and relationships between disturbance agents and topography, climate, and forest stand characteristics.

  4. Develop and demonstrate techniques to incorporate disturbance information into forest resource management planning, including timber supply analysis.
