Study
on white pine in Quebec: markets, future outlook and economic
analysis of plantations
The Canadian Forest
Service (CFS), through its Laurentian Forestry Centre (LFC),
has done a study to examine the situation of white pine
in Quebec, including markets, future outlook and the potential
offered by plantations. This study has the following components:
1) first, a brief description of the species and its uses;
2) standing timber inventories, allowable cuts, allocations
and harvesting of pine in Quebec in recent years; 3) roundwood
use and imports by processing plants in Quebec; 4) principal
users and uses; 5) trends in market prices for roundwood
and lumber in northeastern North America; 6) market trends;
7) market outlets and competing products; 8) provision
of a few white pine management scenarios with a cost benefit
analysis.

Study
of the potential of hybrid poplar plantations in the
Charlevoix region
Evaluation
report of the project "Study on the culture
of fast-growing species", established in the Charlevoix
region (Quebec), aimed at studying the potential of hybrid
poplar plantations. Plantation analysis under this project
made it possible to identify five main paramaters to
be considered when establishing hybrid poplar plantations:
the moisture balance, site preparation, seedling quality,
depth of planting and weeding.
The
document was prepared by Gaétan Sirois, For.
Eng. with the Charlevoix Community Futures Development
Corporation (CFDC), for the Canadian Forest Service.
