THE WORKSHOP: Hydrogen could be the key to reducing both global CO2 emissions and criteria pollutants in transportation systems. Only hydrogen and electric storage batteries are able to power vehicles and other transportation systems with zero tailpipe emissions. Widespread adoption of hydrogen vehicles will encourage the growth of Canada's hydrogen infrastructure and create opportunities for product innovation, for further industrial uses of hydrogen and for an increasing range of energy services.
But, are we at a point where hydrogen-powered vehicles can begin to replace fossil fuel-powered vehicles? Canada has world-leading technology and the know-how to implement the transition to hydrogen. What we need now are early adopters and programs to support this transition.
This workshop will provide an overview of the technical and economic status of the application of hydrogen to fleet vehicle transportation. It will discuss the drivers for making a transition to the hydrogen age, the technologies for producing hydrogen, the status of refueling technology, vehicle ‘engine' choices, and case studies of hydrogen-powered fleet programs. The workshop will be of interest to provincial and municipal transit authorities, large local fleet operators, OEM bus, car and truck manufacturers, hydrogen technology providers, and government policy makers.
SPEAKERS: Participants will hear from speakers from BC Transit, AC Transit, Ballard Power, Hydrogenics, General Motors, the Hydrogen Engine Center and Westport Innovations.
