California PUC Approves Nation's Biggest Solar Program

San Francisco- The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) today approved the California Solar Initiative, a program to install 3,000 megawatts of solar on California homes, businesses, farms, schools and public facilities over 11 years. The initiative is the nation's largest solar power investment, designed to make solar power mainstream and affordable. It will add clean energy to the state's peak demand resources, reduce risk by diversifying the state's energy portfolio, and establish a world-class solar market in California. |

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is proposing to expand the state's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). The rule would require that 2% come from solar electric resources - a development that would result in about 1,500 MW of solar electricity. Tell the BPU Commissioners that you support this program! |

Solar-Powered Lighting Systems Installed at Critical Areas in New Orleans

Working with donated solar panels from Sharp Electronics, SOL(R) INC is installing 30 solar-powered lighting systems at critically designated areas in and around New Orleans. The Louisiana State Police have identified the locations for the lighting systems, which include the camps housing state police from nine states around the country. Colorado's Representatives Call For Increased Solar R&D

Citing concerns surorunding the nation's energy security and technological leadership, a group of Colorado's Congressional representatives - including Rep. Bob Beauprez (R-CO), Rep. Mark Udall (D-CO), Rep. John Salazar (D-CO), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Sen. Ken Salazar (D-CO), today submitted a letter to Congressional leadership. The bipartisan coalition called for a reduction in the funding "earmarks" that have disproprtionately impacted solar resarch in recent years. |
