National Capital Commission
Canada

RemindersWith over 1,000,000 visits annually to the National Capital Greenbelt, we need your help to ensure its protection. Please be kind to your fellow visitors and the Greenbelt's natural environment by respecting the following:

General

  • Motorized vehicles on trails and pathways, open fires, alcoholic beverages, hunting and trapping are prohibited in the Greenbelt.
  • In case of emergency, contact the NCC Emergency Line at 239-5353 (24 hours, 7 days a week). Please remember never to leave valuables in a parked car.

Animals

  • Domestic animal control regulations are in place: signs are posted in parking lots and access points to the trail system outlining where and when dogs are allowed.

Wherever dogs are permitted, they must be under your control at all times and the stoop and scoop rule applies. Two large off-leash areas are available at Bruce Pit and Conroy Pit.

Environmental Protection

  • To ensure the protection of the delicate wetland environment of Mer Bleue, stay on the boardwalk.
  • Picking plant, animal or geological specimens is prohibited.

Walking or Snowshoeing

  • In wintertime, most of the trails are used for cross-country skiing. If you are walking or snowshoeing, please stay well to the side of the ski tracks. Four trails are available specifically for winter walking and snowshoeing.
  • Several trails and pathways pass next to farmland. Please respect the farmers who earn their living from these lands and stay on the trail.

Tobogganing

  • Always use caution when sledding and keep to the sides when climbing up the hills.
  • It is recommended that children be equipped with appropriate protective head gear. Snowboarding and snow jumps (moguls) are not permitted.
  • Throughout the winter, should conditions deteriorate and pose a hazard to users, the toboggan hills will be temporarily closed and signs will be posted to this effect. Users toboggan at their own risk at all times.
