Student Employment Opportunities Geomatics Canada Scholarship Program
Funded by GeoConnections and Geomatics Canada and administered annually
by the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG), this scholarship was created
to assist students enrolled in a post secondary institution in the field
of Geomatics.
In October 2002, the program was expanded to include four (4) graduate
level University Scholarships of $2,500, eight (8) undergraduate level
University Scholarships of $2,000 and eight (8) College/Technical Institute
Scholarships of $1,500 awarded annually and distributed throughout the
geomatics disciplines.
The Canadian Institute of Geomatics will also present each of the scholarship
winners with a complimentary one-year student membership which includes
a subscription to Geomatica.
The Geomatics Canada Scholarship Program has been created:
- to assist in furthering the education and training of students in
the field of geomatics;
- to promote and increase the knowledge, skills and proficiency in the
geomatics profession in Canada;
- to promote the study of geomatics to further CanadaĠs position in
the international marketplace;
- to recognize the work and effort an individual has put into researching,
preparing and publishing a technical paper related to geomatics;
- to encourage and support the research related to a unique geomatics
project by a student who is working towards their masters or doctorate
in a geomatics related field;
- to enhance the public good of all Canadians by promoting geomatics
and its contribution to the economic and social well being of Canada.
The scholarships shall be made to students in good standing, registered
full time, in a recognized university, technical institute or community
college, in Canada. Students must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
Students must be continuing a course of study in the field of geomatics
within a full time, co-op program or post-graduate studies.
Students awarded a scholarship are not eligible in any subsequent year.
A student who wishes to compete for a scholarship must submit an application
consisting of the following:
- A sealed official transcript(s) of all post secondary education (e.g.,
technical institute, community college, or university courses completed
and grades received);
- Confirmation of full time or co-op program registration in a Geomatics
related program at a recognized university, technical institute or community
college in Canada
- Signed, sealed, original letters of recommendation from two (2) faculty
members of the technical institute, college or university who are familiar
with the applicant's work and capabilities;
- A one page statement from the student outlining specific projects,
research and accomplishments related to geomatics and plans for continued
education.
- Proof of Canadian Citizenship or landed immigrant status.
All completed applications for the scholarship program must be submitted
to the Geomatics Canada Scholarship Program, c/o Canadian Institute of
Geomatics (see address below),
Deadline for applications is February 15.
