The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) provides operational fire-control services, as well as management and information services to its Member Agencies. In addition to coordinating services for all of the provinces and territories, CIFFC often coordinates the sharing of resources with the United States and other countries.

Your Access to the Forest Fire Scene

Our Website provides the public with information about the Centre and our activities. It also contains a link to FireWire, our online fire reporting system, which provides up-to-the-minute bulletins, situation reports, and firestart and spread data for our Member Agencies and other firefighting organizations.

  Current Fire Situation
The 2006 fire season is in its final phase with all interagency personnel back home and the equipment being collected, packaged, and transported back to the sending agencies. It was a long hot and very active wildfire season for all agencies across Canada. Beginning in April and running into October the number of wildland fires reached numbers not seen since the late 1980's. To date approximately 1,800 professional wildland fire fighters, over 900 medium fire pumps with 22,000 lengths of fire hose along with truck loads of related fire equipment, and 63 air tankers have been mobilized through CIFFC in response to wildland fire activity across Canada. With Environment Canada's forecast for a hot dry summer coming true for the west, all Wildland Fire Management Agencies had worked full out to stay on top of the very active fire season. To date there has been 9,482 wildland fires reported consuming 1,957,247 hectares. For a more in-depth look at the current situation go to 'FIREWIRE ONLINE' for the final National Situation Report for 2006. For fire activity graphs showing this years activity go to 'FIRE NEWS'
