Mineral Resources is integrated with the Environment, Water Resources, Land Administration, and Field Operations divisions; all within the Operations Directorate. This allows for a coordinated approach to resource development in Nunavut, in support of sustainable development.
Specifically, Mineral Resources does the following:
- ensures compliance with the Canada Mining Regulations;
- monitors, assesses and reports on mineral related activities in Nunavut;
- maintains an archive of Nunavut’s mineral exploration and mining history available to clients;
- jointly manages the Canada-Nunavut Geoscience Office;
- develops mineral exploration and mining policies while serving as an advocate for sustainable mineral development in the territory;
- contributes to public awareness through schools, community visits and public events;
- promotes Nunavut as a premier location for mineral-related investment; and
- provides technical advice during environmental assessments.
