November 2005

One hundred attendees from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut participated in the NRCan Geomatics Workshops

Within the framework of the Geomatics for Northern Development Program, three workshops were held in the following cities: Yellowknife, Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit.

The objective of these workshops was to make the participants aware of the existence of the geospatial data for their areas and to explain the concepts of the GPS and its use with the geospatial data produced by Natural Resources Canada. These meetings aimed also to validate the priorities of production of data for the North with the users.

Moreover representatives of the department met groups of high school students from Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit for short presentations on the GPS and the geospatial data. These training workshops were crowned with success since the majority of the participants requested that the department organize other workshops of the same type.
