Western Churchill Metallogeny Project Hands across the border: a preliminary tectonostratigraphic framework for the WCP in Saskatchewan, Nunavut and Northwest Territories
Sally Pehrsson: Saskatchewan Geological Survey Open House November November 30 - December 2 2004
The Western Churchill Metallogeny project aims to update the tectonostratigraphic framework of the WCP and synthesize its regional metallogeny. Key developments include: 1) Subdivision of the Rae province into distinct NE and SW Meso-Neoarchean crustal domains that were potentially amalgamated during a latest Archean ca. 2.55 orogenic event ; 2) Delineation of an old southern Hearne block in southern NT and northern SK characterized by local 3.0-3.1 Mesoarchean basement, widespread 3.0 Ga inheritance, and 3.0-3.2 Ga crust formation ages; and 3) Possible extension of nickel-PGE-prospective high Mg mafic and ultramafic rocks of Rankin-Ennadai belt into northeastern Saskatchewan, as part of the distinct central-southern Hearne domain.
