Slave Province Minerals & Geoscience
Geophysics

Activity Leader: Dr. Mike Thomas

Geophysical studies and the resulting data play an important role in the Slave Province Minerals & Geoscience - Compilation and Synthesis. On a regional scale, widespread coverage of the Slave Province is provided by gravity, aeromagnetic and radiometric data sets acquired principally as part of national mapping programs. Although there are local gaps in coverage, these datasets provide valuable information on the structure and composition of the Slave Province crust, thereby enhancing geological knowledge.

Several geophysical activities are in progress:

  1. As an aid to the revision of bedrock geology maps. Responsible: Wouter Bleeker.
  2. To examine the significance of gravity and magnetic anomaly patterns in terms of a large-scale structural framework of the Slave province. Responsible: Mike Thomas.
  3. To investigate the geometry and structure of the layed mafic-ultramafic Booth River intrusion. Responsible: Larry Hulbert.
  4. To investigate the gravity and magnetic signatures of the Muskox layered intrusion.
  5. To determine the velocities of rocks from the Slave Province to aid in the interpretation of seismic data. Responsible: Matt Salisbury
