Spatial data analysis
The Spatial Data Analysis Laboratory provides a scientific knowledge base for the Canadian geological
community in analysis of geoscientific spatial data and in multi-dimensional visualization.
Such a mission requires leadership, responsiveness and excellence. The emphasis is on consultation
and partnership with industries, the Canadian Provinces and other leaders within the international scientific community,
including the Geological Survey of Canada. The strategic approach is to ensure that the Laboratory will carry out activities that
are most needed and effective through consultation and joint ventures.
Objectives:
- To conduct research in quantitative techniques for analyzing multiple geological data sets for resource evaluation, geologic hazard assessment, and environmental studies.
- To promote and conduct research in the use of remotely sensed data for geological and environmental studies by using image processing and spatial data analysis.
- To identify and develop optimal advanced methods of data visualization and representation in multi-dimensional space.
- To transfer knowledge and technology to other actitivities, industrial partners and institutions.
- To provide access to methods and analytical facilities to universities, mining companies and provincial agencies.
