MAP:GAC is a partnership between the Earth Sciences Sector, Canadian industry and all the Andean nations: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. MAP:GAC's goal is to contribute to improving the quality of life for Andean peoples by reducing the negative impact of earthquakes, landslides, and volcanoes. ESS and its partners are achieving this goal by providing updated and integrated geoscience and geospatial information for land use planning and natural hazard mitigation. Providing this information requires the transfer Canadian technology and expertise to Andean nations through field courses, fieldwork, workshops, conferences, etc. Multinational activities to promote the sharing and dissemination of knowledge between countries are also taking place, including the design of public information packages on natural hazards, and the creation of regional natural hazard maps.

Goals of MAP:GAC in Peru include completing a geoenvironmental study of the Chira-Catamayo River basin in partnership with Bolivia, as well as a geoenvironmental study of the Peruvian-Bolivian Altiplano. Read more about MAP:GAC in Peru.

Project partners: Earth Sciences Sector (Geological Survey of Canada), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Canadian companies and universities, and national geoscience agencies of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela
